The Right Rev. Prosper Dzomeku, Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC), has called on Ghanaians, irrespective of their professions, to see themselves as co-workers with God.
“Whether you are into commerce, politics, religion or any other profession, we are called by God to work with him for the betterment of humanity,” he said.
The Moderator made the call when he cut the sod for the construction of an office complex for the Tema Presbytery at a ceremony at the GEC Hope Chapel, Sakumono.
When completed, the Presbytery complex would house the Chairman’s residence, ultra-modern conference room, offices for the Chairman and the Clerk as well as for groups and ministries, general office and reception, among others. It is estimated to cost about GH₡2.2 million.
Speaking on the theme: “We are God’s Co-Workers,” the Rt. Rev. Dzomeku said God did not call only pastors, but everybody irrespective of where we are and what we do.
He said if people would acknowledge their call to be fellow workers with God, contractors would no longer do shoddy works, procurement officers would demand value for money and every other worker would exhibit the highest sense of sincerity and faithfulness in their areas of endeavours.
“Beloved, God has deposited in every individual talents, skills and values which He is calling on us all to bring to bear in building our motherland. Everybody has something to offer,” he added.
The Rt. Rev. Dzomeku appealed to all who would work at the project site to be selfless and truthful in all they would do so that God would reward them appropriately at the right time.
In a brief history of the Presbytery, Rev. Lawrence Ganyo Tefe, the Tema Chairman, said the Presbytery came into being in September 2015, following the 2015 Synod decision to split Accra Presbytery into two due to its huge size and to create enablement for adequate oversight administration and supervision of the congregations in the two Presbyteries.
The Presbytery has 36 Pastors, 33 Pastoral Stations and 43 congregations with an adult population of 9,267.
On the Presbytery Complex, the Chairman revealed that “we have no office space of our own and we are currently sharing a single room space with the Welfare Department of GEC Power Chapel, Community 4. The place is very small and does not allow for expansion and acquisition of vital logistics.”
The Tema Presbytery, he said, spans Teshie, Nungua, Tema and its environs, Ashaiman through Kpone, Katamanso, Afienya and Dawhenya through to Prampram.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Rev. Dr Yohanes Ahiabu, the Synod Clerk, Presbyter Joyce Dieu Donne Ahiabor, the Female Presbyter Executive, Presbyter Eyram Atsu, the Male Presbyter Executive, the Tema Presbytery Executives and some Guests.
